The History of Organ Construction
A particular emphasis of the exhibition is on the technical aspects of organ history. Technical developments are assigned to the different epochs in the history of music and culture, so that the intimate connection between technical and cultural innovation becomes clear.
But to explain the workings of the organ and its individual components, parts of the exhibition are dedicated to fundamental technical questions: How is an organ-pipe made? What determines its sound? What is “tracking”? And who actually makes a “wind-chest”? The Museum of Organ Construction answers these and many other fascinating questions by giving you the chance to see details of the organ, models of working parts or what happens in various workshops. Look over the pipe-maker’s shoulder or help the organ-builder tune the pipes. You will be impressed by the complexity of organ construction!
